Moniammatillisuus on järjestöissä valtti, jokaisella ammattilaisilla on erilaista koulutus ja työkokemusta, jota he voivat hyödyntää työssään.
This thesis discusses the development of volunteer work at Free From Drugs. The topic arose from my practical work in the organisation, which has a long history and strong tradition in national volunteer work. However, volunteer work evolves over time, and its development must go hand in hand with the changing times. Free From Drugs has recently undergone organisational restruc-turing, making the development of its volunteering activities a timely subject.
The thesis also discusses the significant role volunteer work plays in civic activity in society and the current situation of NGOs in Finland. The importance of volunteer work is considerable, and, at its best, it offers volunteers a sense of inclusion and success.
Many NGOs, including Free From Drugs, employ a multi-professional team of experts that sup-port the volunteers in their work nationwide. Multi-professionalism is an asset: each expert has a different educational and work experience background that he or she can draw from. Having expertise from various fields is vital, and it offers a multidisciplinary viewpoint on the organisa-tion itself and on the development of volunteer work. I also discuss organisational work and the opportunities and challenges it involves.
I collected information about Free From Drugs and its development from two target groups through Webropol surveys. The survey respondents included volunteers and employees at Free From Drugs. According to the results, developing the organisation is a relevant topic and some-thing that requires more clarity and coherence. The volunteers reported experiencing a strong sense of inclusion and felt that their work in the organisation was valuable. They also felt that they were supported in their work. These results form a good starting point for building a shared future through the proposed measures together with the organisation’s stakeholders and support-ed by the team of experts.
The thesis discusses professional themes in the work of a community educator and workplace developer, e.g. inclusion, organisational work, volunteer work, working community and develop-ment.
