Nature Is For Everyone Antiracist adventure and outdoor education guide for Respium - Medical and Expert Services Oy (RMES)

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis has been to produce an anti-racist guide for adventure education. To produce the guide, literature on the subject and interviews have been used. Based on the results, a guide was created which contains practical instructions and tips as well as instructions for activities. The visual design of the guide aims to highlight diversity. The theoretical part of the guide covers the topics and the broader issues, and at the end of the guide there is a glossary to explain the meanings of the terms used. One of the elements of adventure education is to take people outside their comfort zone - the idea is that this is how learning and finding solutions can occur. Considering the emotions raised by debates about racism in social discourse, reading this thesis may feel uncomfortable, especially if you have not experienced or thought about racism before. In such cases, it can be helpful to remember that discomfort is an opportunity to develop and evolve.

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoitus on ollut tuottaa tilaajalle antirasistinen opas seikkailukasvatukseen. Oppaan tuottamiseksi on hyödynnetty aiheen kirjallisuutta ja haastatteluja. Tulosten pohjalta syntyi opas, joka sisältää käytännön ohjeita ja vinkkejä sekä ohjeita aktiviteetteihin. Oppaan visuaalisessa ilmeessä on pyritty tuomaan moninaisuutta esiin. Opinnäytetyön teoreettisessa osiossa on käsitelty aiheita ja laajemmin ja sen loppuun on koottu sanasto, jossa avataan termien merkityksiä. Seikkailukasvatuksen yksi elementti on viedä kokijat mukavuusalueen ulkopuolelle - ajatus on, että näin oppiminen ja ratkaisujen löytäminen voi onnistua. Huomioiden rasismiin liittyvien keskustelujen herättämät tunteita yhteiskunnallisissa keskusteluissa, tämän opinnäytetyön lukeminen voi tuntua epämukavalta, erityisesti jos ei ole kokenut tai pohtinut rasismia aiemmin. Silloin voi olla hyödyllistä muistaa, että epämukavuus on mahdollisuus kehittää ja kehittyä.
