Rettin oireyhtymä ja osallisuus eri kommunikoinnin keinoin : teoriasta käytäntöön

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tilaajamme on Rett ry, jota vetää vanhemmat, joilla on Rett-lapsi. Rettin oireyhtymälle on ominaista kielen taantuminen, minkä vuoksi Rett-henkilö tarvitsee kommunikointiin puhetta tukevia ja korvaavia kommunikointikeinoja. Rett ry järjesti perhepäivät Heurekassa, jossa tuimme Rett-henkilöiden osallistumista Heurekan Tekoäly – Me, Myself & AI-näyttelyn Älykoti -kohteessa ja Leikin voima -näyttelyssä. Osallisuuden edistämiseksi tuotimme Heurekan Älykoti -kohteeseen ja Leikin voima -näyttelyyn kommunikointimateriaalia, joissa käytettiin Code-Q:n kehittämiä DialoQ-symbolikuvia. Kommunikointimateriaalina tuotettiin laaja ja suppea kommunikointitaulu sekä irtomerkit. Näiden avulla tuettiin Rett-henkilöiden valintojen tekemistä sekä itsensä ilmaisua. Opinnäytetyön toiminnallisessa osuudessa olimme aktiivisesti toiminnassa mukana käyttämällä valmistamiamme kommunikointimateriaaleja Rett-henkilöiden kanssa mukauttaen niitä ympäristöön ja tilanteeseen sopivaksi. Kommunikointimateriaalin avulla vahvistimme Rett-henkilöiden kommunikointikeinojen käyttöä, jotta lähiympäristön on helpompi tulkita heidän tarpeitaan. Opinnäytetyömme havainnot osoittavat, että läsnäololla ja vastauksen odottamisella on merkittävä vaikutus siihen, että Rett-henkilö saa äänensä kuuluviin.

This thesis was commissioned by Rett Association. The Association is a Finnish organization and run by parents who have a child with Rett syndrome. Language decline is typical for Rett people. Therefore, they need augmentative and alternative communication ways to communicate. Finland Rett Association organised family days in Heureka science centre. The purpose of the days was to support the participation of people with Rett syndrome in Heureka's The Artificial Intelligence – Me, Myself & AI and The Power of Play exhibitions. The communication materials were used to support decision making and self-expression by people with Rett syndrome. Communication materials were produced for Heureka's The Artificial Intelligence – Me, Myself & AI and The Power of Play exhibitions. Communication materials were used to support participation in the exhibitions. The used communication materials were a wide and a limited communication board, as well as separate symbols. The material was made using DialoQ symbol pictures developed by Code-Q. In the functional part of the thesis, communication materials were actively used with people with Rett syndrome. Preparations had been made in advance with Rett people to accommodate them to the environment and the situation. The communication materials were used to strengthen the use of communication ways by Rett people. This was done to make it easier for the environment to interpret the needs of people with Rett syndrome. Based on this thesis, it was discovered how big of an influence being present and waiting have on the Rett person's own voice being heard.
