ADHD MUKANA ICEHEARTS TOIMINNASSA. Vanhempien kokemuksia ADHD lääkehoidosta.

Vesikko, Tiia. ADHD mukana Icehearts-toiminnassa, vanhempien kokemuksia ADHD lääkehoidosta. Kevät 2016. Diakonia Ammattikorkeakoulu, sairaanhoitaja (AMK). Aktiivisuuden ja tarkkaavuuden häiriön (ADHD) diagnosointi ja lääkehoito ovat lisääntyneet viime vuosina. Tämä neuropsykiatrinen sairaus vaikuttaa monella tavalla sekä sitä sairastavan elämään, että sairastuneen läheisiin. Opinnäytetyöni tarkoituksena oli selvittää Icehearts-toimintaan osallistuvien perheiden kokemuksia lapselle aloitetusta ADHD lääkehoidosta sekä vertailla tuloksia Icehearts-kasvattajien kokemuksiin. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on lisätä yleisesti tietoa siitä, miten vanhemmat ovat kokeneet lääkityksen aloittamisen lapsellaan, sillä aiheesta ei ole paljon tutkimustietoa. Lisäksi tavoitteena on lisätä Icehearts-kasvattajien tietämystä ADHD lääkitystä kohtaan. Aineisto on kerätty Icehearts-kasvattajia, sekä Icehearts-vanhempia haastatellen. Haastattelumuotona toimi teemahaastattelu. Kaksi perhettä vastasi kyselyyn sähköpostitse. Opinnäytetyö on toteutettu laadullisella, eli kvalitatiivisella tutkimustavalla. Tuloksista selviää, että tähän tutkimukseen osallistuneet vanhemmat olivat kokeneet lapsilleen aloitetun lääkehoidon pääasiallisesti positiivisena. Lääkitys oli vaikuttanut positiivisesti lasten koulunkäyntiin, perheen arkeen sekä sosiaalisiin tilanteisiin. Haittavaikutuksiakin oli ollut. Samanlaista hyötyä eivät Icehearts-kasvattajat olleet kokeneet lasten kanssa toimiessaan. Heidän kokemuksensa ADHD lääkityksestä oli lähinnä negatiivinen, sillä he kokivat lääkityksen vaikuttaneen Icehearts-toimintaa latistavasti. Opinnäytetyö on suunnattu pääasiallisesti Icehearts-kasvattajille apuvälineeksi Icehearts-toimintaan, jossa mukana toimii enenevissä määrin lapsia, joilla on diagnosoitu ADHD tai jokin muu neuropsykiatrinen sairaus. In the last years there has been an increase in both diagnosing and medically treating ADHD, a neuropsychiatric illness that affects not just the persons afflicted but also their friends and family. The purpose of this thesis is to study the experiences of parents whose child is in the Icehearts-programme and has been prescribed medication for ADHD, then compare them to the Icehearts-mentor's experiences. I am also attempting to bring to light some of the opinions of ADHD-childrens parents about their child's medical treatment because the subject has not been researched much. Furthermore, I hope to be able to help Icehearts-mentors better understand the impact of the medical treatment of ADHD. The material for this thesis consists of interviews with Icehearts-mentors and their pupils parents, conducted by email. The thesis is made using a qualitative approach. My research shows that parents had generally viewed the medical treatment of ADHD as a positive thing. Although there had been some side-effects, the drugs had had a general positive influence on the childrens' schoolwork, everyday family life and their ability to deal with social situations. The Icehearts-mentors, however, did not share the positive viewpoint of the parents; they felt that treating ADHD medically toned down their activities with the children too much. This thesis is aimed mainly to aid the Icehearts-mentors in their work which involves more and more children with medically diagnosed ADHD or other neuropsychiatric condition. This thesis should also be useful for students of this particular field and for anyone interested in the effects of medically treating ADHD.
