#tiämpäällä kirkon nuorisotyön työvälineenä : Osallistujien kokemuksia tien päältä vuonna 2017

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli kerätä ja arvioida #tiämpäällä-autosuunnistustapahtumaan osallistuneiden kokemuksia. Tavoitteena oli hyödyntää saatua tietoa tapahtuman kehittämisessä ja sen aseman vakiinnuttamisessa Tampereen seurakuntayhtymän yhteisessä nuorisotyössä. Tietoa kerättiin laadullisilla aineistonkeruumenetelmillä, pääosin teemahaastattelua mukailevan, puolistrukturoidun kyselylomakkeen avulla. Hyödynsimme havaintojemme tukena myös etnografista lähestymistapaa varsinaisen tapahtuman aikana.

#tiämpäällä on vuosittain juhannuksena järjestettävä, neljä päivää kestävä autosuunnistustapahtuma, jonka aikana autoryhmät suunnistavat perinteisten tiekarttojen avulla ympäri Suomea rastilta toiselle suorittaen ryhmänsä kanssa erilaisia tehtäviä. Yöpyminen tapahtuu leirikeskuksissa ympäri Suomea. Matkan lopuksi rasteilta eniten pisteitä saanut joukkue voittaa seurakunnalleen kiertopokaalin. Tapahtuma on suunnattu erityisesti rippikoulun käyneille nuorille ja nuorille aikuisille.

Saadun palautteen mukaan osallistujat kokivat matkan aikana erityisen mieluisana monipuoliset rastitehtävät, uusien paikkojen näkemisen, luonnossa kulkemisen ja hauskanpidon ryhmäläisten kanssa. Keskeisinä matkan aikaisina oppimiskokemuksina mainittiin muiden ryhmäläisten mielipiteiden huomioon ottaminen, yhteisten toimintaratkaisujen löytäminen, yksilöllisten taitojen hyödyntäminen, oman mielipiteen ilmaisu sekä erityisesti tunteidenhallinta erimielisyyksiä kohdatessa. Yleisimpänä haasteena sekä voimavarana nousi esiin ryhmän tuttuus. Suurimpia onnistumisia osallistujat kokivat suunnistuksessa, ideoinnissa, heittäytymisessä sekä ryhmähengen ylläpidossa.

Tapahtuman järjestelyistä kiitosta sai erityisesti matkareitti, rastipaikat, leirikeskukset sekä tapahtuman yllätyksellisyys ja uudet elementit edellisvuosiin verrattuna. Kehitysajatuksiksi tapahtumaan ehdotettiin yhteisen ajan lisäämistä leirikeskuksiin, lyhyempiä siirtymiä rastilta toiselle sekä ennakkotapaamista ennen matkalle lähtöä.

The purpose of this thesis was to collect and rate the experiences of the participant¬s of #tiämpäällä 2017. The aim was to utilize the gathered information in developing the event and establishing it as a part of the general youth work in a Tampere parish. The information was gathered using qualitative methods, mainly in form of a semi-structured questionnaire. We also utilized the ethnographic way of approximation during the event.

#tiämpäällä is an annually organized, four-day-long car-orienteering event which takes place on the Midsummer Day. During the event, car teams orient around Finland using only traditional road maps, trying to find checkpoints and execute given missions. The teams overnight in camping centers around the country. At the end of the journey, the team with the highest score wins a trophy for their parish. The event is targeted especially for confirmed youth and young adults.

According to the gathered data, participants thought that executing versatile checkpoint missions, visiting new places, wandering in the nature and having fun with the group was particularly enjoyable during the trip. Some key learning experiences that occurred during the trip were linked by paying attention to other group members’ opinions, finding common solutions for the problems, utilizing the unique skills of the group members, and expressing and controlling one’s own feelings. The most common challenge, and also an asset, was the familiarity of the group. Some of the greatest accomplishments the participants experienced during the trip were success in orienteering, ideation, getting involved and maintaining the group spirit.

The most appreciated arrangements in the event were the final selection of the route, checkpoint destinations, choice of camping centers, new elements in comparison to previous years, and also the constant surprise factor during the event. The most often suggested development ideas were about increasing the time spent together at the camping centers in the evenings, shortening the distance between checkpoints, and adding a pre-meeting with the participants.
