The aim of the thesis was to produce a written guide to the family members of ICU patients. The produced guide was aimed to develop ICU-related guidance of the patients’ family members.
The guide was produced in collaboration with the intensive care unit (ICU) of Oulu University Hospital, Finland and is primarily meant to be used in the ICU.
The thesis is centred around the guidance of the ICU patients’ family members and their possibilities to take part in patient care. According to earlier studies, participation of family members has a positive effect on an ICU patient’s recovery and prevents intensive care-related delirium.
