Tiivistelmä
Intuitio on erottamaton osa ihmisen ajattelua.
Intuition is an inseparable part of human thinking. The importance of intuition in nursing is now better understood and has also been researched more in recent years. The aim of this thesis was to organize a lecture to nursing students about the importance of practising intuition to support of professional growth and development in nursing. The aim of the thesis was to provide students with information and material on the topic and to introduce the means to improve the intuition and the effects of intuition on individual professional growth and development.
The thesis project was carried out in cooperation with the Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, and the produced lecture was conducted as part on the course of caring relationship, diversity and multiculturalism. A feedback survey was carried out in connection with the lecture in the form of a questionnaire. The objective of the questionnaire was to find out of the nursing students’ perceptions of the topic before and after the lecture. The lecture had 36 participants, of which 13 answered the feedback questionnaire. Nearly all of the respondents had knowledge on the subject in advance or experiences of intuition in practice. Respondents felt that after the lecture they had gained more theoretical knowledge and ways to identify and develop their own intuition.
A future challenge in the field of health care in general is to get the nurses to stay at their work and to bring new nurses into the field. Therefore, there is a need to add skills to cope at work and support the professional growth and development of nurses and nursing students. For further development, the thesis proposes a training implemented in working life co-operation. It is suggested that more research is needed to find out how this kind of training could support the nurses at their work.
