The aims of this product-based thesis were to produce a brochure about loneliness for English-speaking students of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, and to edit the brochure listening to students’ views. The working life partner of the thesis is O’Diako, the student union of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences.
The product development process included data gathering, planning the structure of the brochure and designing the brochure. The editing process consisted of designing a survey, sending it to students, analysing the responses, finding resolutions for development needs and editing the brochure.
Loneliness is an extensive phenomenon, which affects also students. As an important matter and beneficial for students and staff, an informative brochure was decided to produce containing information on loneliness, what to do about it and where to find help.
As a conclusion, a brochure was produced available for students’ and staff’s use at the O’Diako office in Helsinki campus of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences and on their website. The brochure raises awareness and promotes students' knowledge of loneliness, what could help in overcoming loneliness and where to receive help. Loneliness is a severe and topical subject, which should be raised especially at the time of social restrictions because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
