Yhdessä koulutielle : Tutkimus kodin ja koulun yhteistyö -hankkeesta

Abstract

Opinnäytetyössä tutkittiin Espoon Olarin Päivänkehrän koulussa toteutetun kodin ja koulun yhteistyö -hankkeen tuloksia. Perusopetuksen uudistettuun opetussuunnitel-maan 2004 kirjattiin ensimmäistä kertaa kodin ja koulun yhteistyö. Vuosina 2006–2008 Diakonia-ammattikorkeakoulu osallistui opetusministeriön tukemaan kodin ja koulun yhteistyö -hankkeeseen. Hankkeen konkreettisina tuloksina kehitettiin erilaisia toimintamuotoja kodin ja koulun yhteistyön vahvistamiseksi eri kouluihin ympäri Suomea.

Espoossa Päivänkehrän koulussa kodin ja koulun yhteistyö -hankkeessa kehitettiin vanhempain verstas -malli, jossa oppilaan vanhemmat ja muut läheiset kutsutaan luokkaan esittelemään omaa harrastustaan tai ammattiaan. Vanhempain verstas -mallia oli kehittämässä Diak Kauniaisten opettajia ja opiskelijoita. Tämä opinnäytetyö kuvaa ja tutkii hankkeen loppuvaiheita, toimintavuotta 2008. Tutkimus toteutettiin lähettämällä kyselyitä Internetissä webropol-järjestelmän avulla 2007 ja 2008 koulun-sa aloittaneiden lasten vanhemmille. Lisäksi opettajia haastateltiin, osallistuttiin hankkeeseen kuuluvaan leiripäivään ja 10 viikon ajan havainnoitiin osallistuen en-simmäisen luokan toimintaan.

Vanhemmat, jotka osallistuvat hankkeeseen, olivat erittäin iloisia niin leiripäivästä kuin vanhempain verstas tunneistakin. Vanhemmat kokivat, että opettaja, lapsen luokkakaverit ja toiset vanhemmat tulivat tutummaksi. Lapset oppivat vanhempain vierailuista paljon ja oppilaan, jonka läheinen oli pitämässä oppituntia, suosio kasvoi. Hanketta ei koettu työlääksi ja opettaja koki mukavaksi saada seurata välillä opetusta ja tutustua paremmin vanhempiin.

Hanke päättyi, mutta hankkeessa kehitetty Vanhempain verstas -malli jäi toimimaan Päivänkehrän kouluun opettajien ylläpitämänä. Diak Kauniaisten ja Päivänkehrän koulun hyvin alkanut yhteistyö jatkuu uuden hankkeen myötä.

The aim of the study was to achieve new perspectives based on the results of the home-to-school communication project. It was produced in Espoo in the school of Päivänkehrä. This study was part of the home-to-school communication project, which took place in 2006-2008. The project was made to enforce families and their children starting in elementary schools. This study focused on the end part of the pro-ject, the year 2008.

As for methods, the activity analysis was the basis of this study. The means of analy-sis were committed observation, questionnaires and interviews. Committed observa-tion was used during classes to obtain information of how the project had influenced the children. Three separate questionnaires were sent to the parents of the first and second year students at the Päivänkehrä School. I conducted interviews with teachers to support the purpose of the study. However, the questionnaires comprised the main part of the data.

The results indicated that the parents that participated in the project were satisfied with it. The parents got acquainted with the children of the classes, their respective teachers and other parents. The children learnt much of their parents’ teaching ses-sions. The pupils whose parent participated in the project by teaching the class grew more popular among the other pupils. The teachers valued the possibility of getting to know the parents better and were delighted of being able to invite parents to partici-pate in the teaching process. The parents’ knowhow could be used to increase the pu-pils’ learning on various subjects.

According to the results, the project was not a burden to anyone and the project was found useful. Although the project has concluded, the project is now managed by the teachers and is still in process. The elementary school of Päivänkehrä and the Diaco-nia University of Applied Sciences will also continue their cooperation to improve the home-to-school communication in the future.
