TIIVISTELMÄ

Opinnäytetyössä tutkittiin Lähi-idästä Suomeen muuttaneiden äitien kokemuksia, toiveita ja ennakko-oletuksia työllistymisestä, TE-palveluista ja työnhausta. Työ toteutettiin yhteistyössä Uudenmaan TE-toimiston kanssa. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli tuottaa tietoa yhteistyökumppanille ja tuoda esille haastateltavien kokemuksia ja ajatuksia. Raportissa tehtiin haastatteluiden tulosten perusteella johtopäätöksiä Suomeen muuttaneiden äitien palveluiden kehittämisestä. Raportissa huomioitiin myös evankelis-luterilaisen diakonian ja seurakuntatyön rooli työllistymistä tukevien palveluiden tuottajana.

Tutkimusmenetelmänä opinnäytetyössä käytettiin teemahaastattelua, ja sitä varten haastateltiin kuutta Uudenmaan TE-toimiston asiakasta, jotka kaikki olivat Helsingissä asuvia Lähi-idästä Suomeen muuttaneita äitejä. Viisi kuudesta haastattelusta käytiin haastateltavan äidinkielellä, ja ne toteutettiin loppuvuodesta 2022.

Opinnäytetyön raporttia varten tehdyissä haastatteluissa työllistyminen ja kouluttautuminen nähtiin tavoiteltavina ja arvokkaina asioina, jotka tukevat esimerkiksi osallisuutta ja arjessa jaksamista. Työllistymisen ja sujuvan työnhaun suurimpina esteinä koettiin olevan suomen kielen taidon ja digitaitojen riittämättömyys. TE-toimiston palvelut koettiin tarpeellisiksi, mutta monien mielestä riittämättömiksi. Raportin pohjalta maahan muuttaneiden äitien palveluita voitaisiin kehittää muun muassa tukemalla entistä enemmän suomen kielen ja digitaitojen oppimista, ja helpottamalla suomalaisiin tutustumista.

This thesis is a study of the experiences, hopes and expectations concerning employment, seeking employment, and employment services, perceived by mothers who have immigrated to Finland from the Middle East. The aim of this thesis was to provide information for the working life partner and highlight the experiences and thoughts of the research target group. The information gathered was used in the report to draw conclusions on how to improve the services offered to mothers who have immigrated to Finland. The report also acknowledges the role of diaconal work in the Evangelical-Lutheran parishes in Finland as a provider of services that aim to support employment.

The study was conducted in cooperation with the Employment and Economic Development Offices (TE Offices) of Uusimaa, Finland. The study was conducted as focused interviews of six clients of the TE Offices. Five of the six interviews were conducted using the native language of the interviewee, and all of them were completed during the late 2022.

Based on the interviews, employment and education were seen as desirable and valuable. They were thought to enable active participation in one’s own life and to support the every-day routine. The biggest perceived barriers between the interviewees and employment or applying for employment were insufficient Finnish language and digital skills. The services of the TE Offices were perceived as necessary but lacking. The study proposes that the services could be improved by increasing the number of courses and guidance in Finnish language and navigating digital environments, as well as by supporting the interaction between immigrant mothers and Finnish-born individuals.
