This study aims to determine the possible impacts of autonomous ships within the next 20 years on VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S business models. The study is limited only to the future of VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S and is carried out by an agreement between the company and Novia School of Applied Sciences.
This research consists of current projects in the autonomous maritime industry, describes and levels of autonomous ships, and presents a thorough literature review for the maintenance and servicing of autonomous ships where no human being exists on board. The future predictions of autonomous ships by year analysis were made. The research was conducted by interviewing experts from the company, market, and maritime industry with at least ten years of experience. The interviewees were from different backgrounds: CEOs, General Managers, Consultants, Project Managers, Engineers, Captains, Senior Managers, and Executives. As the interviews were the qualitative side of this research, the company statistics were used for quantitative analysis, which resulted from growth rate analyses. The quantitative and qualitative analyses are merged and discussed in the conclusion. The research addressed a possible timeline and strategies for the company for potential integration with the autonomous trends in the present market.
