TIIVISTELMÄ

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli lisätä traumatietoisuutta varhaiskasvatuksessa oppaan avulla. Oppaan tavoitteena oli toimia työvälineenä varhaiskasvatuksen ammattilaisille traumataustaisen lapsen kohtaamisessa.

Opinnäytetyössä hyödynnettiin viittä eri menetelmää, joita olivat teoriatiedon keruu, puolistrukturoidut haastattelut, keskustelutilanteet sekä tekemämme oppaan ja taiteen hyödyntäminen. Haastatteluihin osallistuvia tahoja olivat äitiysneuvolan terveydenhoitaja, seurakunnan vastaava lastenohjaaja sekä seurakunnan johtava diakoniatyöntekijä. Haastattelut järjestettiin teoriapohjan tueksi ja niiden tavoitteena oli saada kattava ja monipuolinen ymmärrys traumataustaisten lasten kanssa toimimisesta. Keskustelutilanteita hyödynnettiin yhteistyökumppanin tarpeen kartoittamisessa sekä palautteen keruussa. Lopulta opas muodostettiin yhteistyökumppanimme toiveiden, käytyjen haastattelujen ja teoriatiedon pohjalta.

Opinnäytetyön yhteistyökumppanina toimi Porin kaupungin päiväkoti Lounatuuli. Päiväkoti Lounatuulen johtaja esitti kiinnostuksensa opasta kohtaan ennen ensimmäistä tapaamistamme. Tämän jälkeen päiväkodin johtaja muodosti neljästä varhaiskasvatuksen opettajasta koostuvan tiimin, jonka tarkoituksena oli tuoda päiväkoti Lounatuulen toiveet esiin keskustelutunnin aikana ennen oppaan kokoamista. Lisäksi tiimin tarkoituksena oli tutustua valmiiseen oppaaseen ja antaa meille palautetta siitä.

Keräsimme palautteen oppaasta yhteistyökumppanitiimiltämme tapaamisessamme. Palaute oli positiivista ja yhteistyökumppanimme koki oppaan helposti ymmärrettäväksi. Heidän mielestään se tarjosi myös lähtökohdan varhaiskasvatuksessa traumatietoisempaan työskentelyyn.

The aim of the thesis was to raise trauma awareness in early childhood education with the help of a guide. The aim of the guide was to serve as a tool for early childhood education professionals when they encounter children with trauma.

The thesis used five different methods: theoretical research, semi-structured interviews, discussion situations, and the use of the guide and art that was created. The participants in the interviews were a maternity clinic nurse, the children`s instructor in charge from the local parish and the leading diaconal worker. The interviews were conducted to support the theoretical basis and their aim was to gain a comprehensive and diverse understanding of working with children with trauma. The discussion situations were used to identify the needs of the partner day-care centre Lounatuuli, and to gather feedback from the team. Finally, the guide was developed based on the wishes of the partner, interviews and theoretical knowledge.

The partner in the thesis was the day-care centre Lounatuuli in the city of Pori. The manager of the day-care centre Lounatuuli expressed interest in idea of the guide at the first meeting. After this, the director of the day-care centre formed a team of four early childhood education teachers to bring forth the wishes of day-care centre Lounatuuli during a discussion session before the guide was greated. The team was also to go through the finished guide and give the authors feedback on it.

Feedback on the guide was collected from the team during a meeting in september 2023. The feedback was positive, and the team found the guide very informative. They also felt that it provided a good starting point for more trauma-informed work in early childhood education.
