The subject of this Bachelor’s thesis is the creation of a business plan for a mobile bike repair shop and the development of educational bike mechanical workshops in Ylläs, Kolari. The objective of this thesis is to encourage the growth of a community of bike enthusiasts who share their passion, inspire one another, and promote the values of sustainability, health, and community, and to educate this community about the importance of gear maintenance on the success of outdoor adventures in Pallas-Ylläs National Park. In this thesis I also analyze the core competencies required from an outdoor leader when setting up bike maintenance work- shops.
In this thesis I present a business plan for a mobile bike repair shop located in a van and serving bike tourists of the Pallas-Ylläs National Park as well as local residents of the Ylläs area. The business plan consists of the analysis of the concept, opportunities, market, prod- ucts, business strategy, customers, marketing, and financials as well as risks and challenges.
I am the commissioner of my thesis. While living in Lapland I’ve been looking for jobs re- lated to adventure and outdoor education and realized the best option is to set up my own business. In this thesis, I get to combine my knowledge of outdoor education and my long- lived passion for cycling. The business plan created in this thesis serves as a highly valuable asset for setting up a future business in Lapland – whether a bike repair shop or other kind of business in the field of adventure and outdoor education. The thesis may also inspire fellows in adventure and outdoor education into setting up a business of their own.
