Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa Mannerheimin Lastensuojeluliiton Pohjois-Pohjanmaan piirin lastensuojelun perhetyön asiakasperheiden kokemuksia perhetyöstä ja tavoitteena oli parantaa palvelun laatua. Opinnäytetyö tehtiin kvalitatiivisena eli laadullisena tutkimuksena. Tutkimusmenetelmäksi valittiin kyselylomaketutkimus, joka lähetettiin kohderyhmälle eli vuosien 2013–2014 aikana lastensuojelun perhetyön asiakkaina olleille perheille. Kysely toteutettiin syyskuussa 2014. Saatu aineisto analysoitiin aineistolähtöisellä sisällönanalyysilla.

Tulosten mukaan perhetyö koettiin tärkeäksi tukimuodoksi. Perhetyöstä oli saatu emotionaalista tukea sekä apua arjen sujumiseen ja vanhemmuuteen. Perheet olivat voineet vaikuttaa käyntiaikoihin ja saaneet palvelua sitä tarvitessaan. Puolet vastaajista oli tietoisia seurakunnalta saatavasta tuesta. Tulosten perusteella perhetyön toteuttamisessa tulisi kiinnittää huomiota perhetyön mielekkyyteen lasten näkökulmasta, lasten osallisuuteen perhetyöprosessissa sekä perhetyökäyntien määrään. Jatkotutkimushaasteiksi nousivat tutkimuksen aikana lapsen osallisuus perhetyössä sekä seurakunnan ja perhetyön yhteistyö.

The purpose of the thesis was to survey client families' experiences of the family work of child welfare done by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare, Northern Ostrobothnia district and the aim was to develop the quality of the service. The thesis was made as a qualitative research. A questionnaire was chosen as the method of research which was sent to the target group. The target group included families who had been clients of the family work during the years 2013−2014. The questionnaire was conducted in September 2014. The material was analyzed through inductive content analysis.

The results show that the family work was experienced as an important form of support. Family work gave to families emotional support, help in coping with everyday life and support for parenting. Families had been able to affect the visiting times and received the service when it was needed. Half of the families who participated in the research were aware of the support offered by the parish. Based on the results, the implementation of the family work should pay attention to the meaningfulness of the family work from children´s point of view, children´s participation in the family work process and the number of visits of family work. Further research challenges are the child´s participation in family work and the cooperation between parish and family work.
