Tiivistelmä
The purpose of the thesis was to organise an art workshop to support young adults’ mental health and to find out about the impacts of acrylic pouring. The aim was to increase the participants’ sense of capability, increase their creativity and inspire them, to empower them. The thesis generated information about the suitability of fluid art for rehabilitative art workshops, as further research is needed on the benefits of different art techniques on various client groups. The third sector has an important role in supporting young adults’ mental health and provided a context for the project.
The workshop was organised two times in collaboration with the Culture House Kupla, which organises various activities for young adults who have challenges with mental health or otherwise a challenging life situation. Feedback about the art technique and its impacts was collected after the workshops with the help of a questionnaire. Altogether eight participants answered the questionnaire.
Based on the feedback, creating fluid art can evoke various positive emotions. It can increase a sense of capability and have uplifting and relaxing effects. All participants considered acrylic pouring as suitable for art workshops because of how easy and spontaneous the technique is, among other reasons. Most participants experienced an increased sense of capability and positive feelings or mood. The results suggest that acrylic pouring can have its place in supporting young adults’ wellbeing and in rehabilitative art workshops.
