The growing amount of mental health challenges among youth has made it
necessary to search for innovative approaches to support their wellbeing. This study investigates the effectiveness of digital social services in addressing youth mental health needs. By conducting a descriptive literature review, the research examines existing studies and applies thematic analysis to highlight key themes, strengths, and limitations of these services. Social Support Theory guides the analysis to explore how digital services provide informational, emotional, and practical support.

The findings reveal mixed user satisfaction with digital mental health services. Youth appreciate the anonymity and accessibility of online platforms, but there are concerns about privacy, trust, and the lack of emotional connection to these services. Barriers such as digital literacy and socioeconomic differences impact the effectiveness of digital interventions. Additionally, many young people prefer face-to-face services, which emphasize the importance of trust and personalized emotional connection.

Despite the limitations, digital platforms show potential in enhancing youth engagement and addressing mental health needs, mainly when designed with user-centered approaches. The study identifies critical areas for improvement. These include tailoring services to cultural and individual needs and integrating security measures and fostering inclusivity. Digital mental health services can complement traditional support systems by bridging the existing gaps and providing more effective and accessible care for vulnerable youth.
