Tiivistelmä
The expansion of telehealth within the healthcare sector has been progressively accepted although its application and use in some healthcare sectors has had some hesitation to fully employ the technology. It has still been very useful in assisting individuals with limited access to care. It facilitates remote patients monitoring, establishing diagnosis and assessments through videoconferences, communicating through a phone (messages, calls, receiving laboratory results) and booking appointments with the help of trained nurses who ensure the implementation of this technology in the sectors where its adoption has been significantly helpful.
This research study is purposed to verify how telehealth expansion in the Nordic countries has been advantageous and benefiting healthcare professionals and patients. Finland, recognized as one of the most advanced digital economies in EU as of 2021. The study explores both nurses’ and patient’s perspectives, aiming to discover to what extent the technology has been advantageous in its expansion within healthcare systems. The relevance of this research study is worthy to healthcare practitioners, to healthcare students and even to instructors with an objective to enhance the workforce or manpower within the healthcare sector.
A descriptive literature review methodology was used in this research study. Data were collected from PubMed, CINAHL, MyEBSCO Arcada and google scholar. The inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the study where twenty articles were extracted and reviewed for this research study. During the data analysis process, a content analysis was implemented.
From the results obtained from the review, six main categories were identified based on the research study topic: telehealth advantages, the role and competence of the nurse, the expansion of telehealth and its evolution, healthcare and patient perspective and the challenges.
The results of this study highlight the significance of telehealth implementation that evidently supports healthcare professionals in the application of care. Healthcare professionals have the duty to be professionally possessed with some competences that would be useful in the adoption and acceptance of telehealth technology in the different healthcare sectors. The use of telehealth enhances delivery service by serving time, improves access to care and increases the overall quality of care which benefits the patients, nurses, healthcare systems, healthcare students and educators.
