Malmimessun kehittäminen kielitietoisen työpajan avulla

Abstract

Tämän kehittämispainotteisen opinnäytetyön tarkoitus oli kehittää Malmin seurakunnan uutta messutoimintaa. Toimintaa oli tarkoitus kehittää monikielisyyttä aiempaa huomioivammaksi, sillä kulttuurillinen moninaisuus kasvaa jatkuvasti, mikä näkyy myös seurakunnan toiminnassa. Kirkon Ovet auki 2026 –strategia korostaakin vieraanvaraisuutta ja osallisuutta, ja Helsingin seurakuntien strategia yhteenkuuluvuutta ja hyväksytyksi tulemisen kokemusta. Siitä huolimatta, että Uudellamaalla asuu suuri määrä vieraskielisiä kristittyjä, heille suunnattua toimintaa on ollut rajallisesti. Opinnäytetyö pyrki vastaamaan Malmin seurakunnan tavoitteeseen osallistaa erityisesti kansainvälisiä opiskelijoita.

Keskeisessä osassa opinnäytetyötä oli suunnitella ja toteuttaa kielitietoinen osallistava työpaja. Sen tarkoituksena oli ideoida yhdessä seurakunnan toimintaan osallistujien kanssa uuden Malmimessun toimintatapoja sellaisiksi, että ne vastaisivat monikielisen messuyhteisön tarpeisiin. Tavoitteena oli lisätä yhteisöllisyyden ja osallisuuden kokemuksia, erityisesti kansainvälisten opiskelijoiden kohderyhmä huomioiden. Menetelminä tässä opinnäytetyössä käytettiin toiminnallisen työpajan lisäksi havainnointia sekä keskustelua vapaaehtoisten messunrakentajien ja yhteistyökumppanina toimineen Malmin seurakunnan kanssa. Työpajassa syntyneitä ideoita testattiin käytännössä, kun Malmin seurakunnassa järjestettiin Malmimessun testimessu keväällä 2025.

This development-oriented thesis was conducted to develop the worship practices of the Malmi Parish. As cultural diversity is constantly increasing and this is reflected in the activities of the parish, the aim was to make the services more considerate of multilingualism than before. Even though there are many Christians who are foreign-language speakers living in Uusimaa, there is limited number of activities for them. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland has a strategy called “Ovet auki 2026”, (Open Doors 2026). It highlights hospitality and inclusion, while the strategy of the Lutheran Church in Helsinki highlights the importance of being included and accepted. The thesis aimed to respond to the goal of the Malmi Parish to involve international students in particular.

A key part of this thesis was to design and implement a language-aware participatory workshop. The purpose of the workshop was to collaboratively develop new ways of conducting the Malmi Mass together with the participants, so that it would meet the needs of a multilingual worship community. The main target group was international students, and the main objective was to strengthen their feeling of being included in the community and with other parish members. In addition to the workshop, the methods employed in this thesis included observation and discussions with the parish members involved in developing the mass, as well as discussions with representatives of the partner, Malmi Parish. Ideas that came up in the workshop were tested in practice at the test mass of the Malmi Mass in spring 2025.
