Tiivistelmä
The thesis rose from a social service professional’s observation. They noted a need for information on how body-emotion education is perceived and utilized in the Ukrainian population in Finland. The aim was to substantiate the need with academic sources and through a survey cater to that need. The survey was conducted in cooperation with the Ukrainian association in Finland.
The first part of the thesis consists of relating theory, covering a stretch of academic development from Baumrind’s seminal work on parenting styles to Body-emotion education, with a focus on the latter. The idea is to present upbringing as an academic continuation with practices being built on empirical data. More in-depth explanation of the aim of the research follows, after which the partnering association is more closely introduced. Then follows the main part of the thesis, the methodology of the survey and analysis is discussed. Descriptive data analysis is used and graphics are provided in the following part. Insufficient data hinders this study’s results, which are discussed next. They are followed by discussion on the ethics and limitations of the study. Lastly, the thesis itself is discussed.
An output in the form of questionnaire answers was produced for the partnering organization. Analysis of said answers in this thesis is largely null due to the low number of participants for quantitative study. It can hopefully serve as a steppingstone for further study.
