Kulttuuritietoisuuden lisääminen Äkkiväärän päiväkodissa

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli kehittää Äkkiväärän päiväkodin monikulttuurisuuskasvatusta. Toiminnallisen opinnäytetyön konkreettisena tuotoksena syntyi materiaalivihko, joka tukee Äkkiväärän päiväkodin varhaiskasvattajien monikulttuurisuusosaamista. Materiaalivihkon avulla varhaiskasvattajat voivat tutustua yhdessä lasten kanssa eri kulttuureihin sekä käydä läpi ihmisten moninaisuutta. Tarve materiaalivihkoon nousi päiväkodilta, koska päiväkodissa on lapsia eri kulttuureista ja kulttuureihin tutustuminen oli jäänyt vähäiselle huomiolle.

Materiaalivihko toteutettiin yhdessä Äkkiväärän päiväkodin Tarutossut -ryhmän lasten ja varhaiskasvattajien kanssa. Materiaalivihkon alussa on teoriaa siitä, mitä on monikulttuurisuuskasvatus varhaiskasvatuksessa. Materiaalivihko sisältää myös erilaisia harjoituksia, harjoituskokonaisuuksia ja kirjavinkkejä kasvattajalle liittyen kulttuurien ja ihmisten moninaisuuteen. Testasimme harjoituskoko-naisuuksia 4–6-vuotiaista lapsista koostuvan pienryhmän kanssa. Keskeisenä menetelmänä opinnäytetyössämme oli elämyspedagogiikka. Päiväkodissa testatut harjoituskokonaisuudet olivat luonteeltaan elämyspedagogisia, joita päiväkodin varhaiskasvattajat testasivat lasten kanssa.

Opinnäytetyötä voisi jatkossa kehittää siten, että tutkitaan, onko materiaalivihko ollut hyödyllinen päiväkodin arjessa. Harjoituskokonaisuuksia voisi kehittää tekemällä tuokioista laajempia kokonaisuuksia, kuten teemapäiviä tai -viikkoja. Myös lasten vanhempia voisi osallistaa enemmän eri kulttuurien moninaisuuksien kohtaamisissa.

The aim of this thesis was to develop the multicultural education of Äkkiväärä day-care centre. As a concrete output of this functional thesis was a guide booklet, which will support the multicultural competence of the early childhood educators of Äkkiväärä day-care centre. With the help of the guide booklet, educators and children can become aware of different cultures and the diversity of people. The need and demand for the booklet arose from the day-care centre, since many of the children come from different ethnic backgrounds. In addition, the day-care centre expressed a growing need for multicultural education.

The guide booklet was produced in collaboration with the children and educators of the day-care centres group called Tarutossut. The guide booklet begins with theoretical review of multicultural education. The booklet also includes different exercises, collections of exercises, and literature recommendations for educators on multiculturalism and diversity. We tested the collections of exercises with small group of children aged between 4 and 6. The key method in our thesis was experiential pedagogy. The exercises tested in the day-care centre by the educators were based on experiential pedagogy.

As a suggestion for further research we propose exploring the usefulness of the guide booklet in the everyday life of the day-care centre. Combining the exercises to form more extensive entities, like theme days or weeks, could develop the exercises further. Furthermore, the parents could also be involved in the multicultural education.
