Tiivistelmä
Mielenterveys on osa kokonaisvaltaista terveyttä, johon vaikuttavat lukuisat tekijät.
Mental health is a fundamental part of holistic health which is influenced by numerous factors. Preventing mental health work is strengthening of factors and structures that protect the individual and community. Preventing mental health work is a preventive activity increasing knowledge and influencing attitudes, habits and conditions.
Mental health problems are the most common health problem among school-aged people. This thesis deals with the most common mental disorders with a prevalence of at least 5 % in the age group of 13 to 22. The purpose of this thesis is to inform students about the most common mental health disorders and their prevention. The task of this thesis is to produce teaching lessons for the 9th grade students of Arppe upper secondary school in Kitee. During the week, teaching was organized for six groups.
Further development proposal is that in addition to the lessons, there could be a study which explores the level of knowledge of mental health promotion and mental health disorders among the students. Introduction of local and provincial mental health services could be added to the lessons. The thesis can be used to update the knowledge base of a school nurse and teacher of health education and as a material for teaching lessons.
