Microsoft Windows Server 2003 -palvelimen asentaminen ja käyttöönotto yrityksessä Postituspojat

Abstract

Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin yritysten Postituspojat ja HelmiTaito kanssa. Projektin tavoitteena oli saada Postituspojille toimiva uusi Microsoft Windows Server 2003 –palvelinympäristö. Uuden palvelinlaitteiston hankkiminen tuli Postituspojille ajankohtaiseksi yritykseen tehdyn tietoteknisen kartoituksen jälkeen. Tietoteknisen kartoituksen teki Petri Helmikkala yrityksestä HelmiTaito.

Käyttöönotetussa palvelimessa tulee olla toiminnassa ainakin tiedostonjako, Active Directory sekä tulostimienjako ominaisuudet. Kaikki kyseiset ominaisuudet löytyvät Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition –palvelimesta. Kyseinen versio Windows Server 2003 –palvelimesta päädyttiin asentamaan yritykselle Postituspojat.

Lähtökohtana yrityksellä oli kaksi erillistä palvelinta, joista toinen, Linux-pohjainen, suoritti tiedostonjakoa. Toinen palvelin, joka oli Windows XP Professional –työasema, jakoi asiakkuudenhallintaohjelmaa.

Projekti oli toimintatutkimus ja pääpaino projektissa olivat testiasennuksilla sekä lopullisilla asennuksilla yrityksen Postituspojat tiloissa. Tutkimusmenetelmänä projektissa käytettiin konstruktiivista tutkimusmenetelmää, jonka tarkoituksena on luoda jotain uutta olemassa olevan tiedon pohjalta. Tässä tapauksessa uusi palvelinympäristö luotiin teorian pohjalta.

Tavoitetilaan eli käyttöönotettuun palvelimeen päästiin nopeasti. Aikataulu kiristyi kun toinen vanhoista palvelimista hajosi. Käyttöönotetussa palvelimessa oli käytössä tiedostonjako sekä Active Directory –palvelu. Active Directory –palvelua ei kuitenkaan pystytty täysin hyödyntämään, koska suurin osa yrityksen työasemista oli Windows XP Home Edition –käyttöjärjestelmällä varustettuja ja kyseinen käyttöjärjestelmä ei tue lainkaan toimialueita.

Installation and deployment of Windows Server 2003 server at Postituspojat

The thesis was completed in co-operation with two companies, Postituspojat and HelmiTaito. The purpose of the project was to install and bring into use a new Microsoft Windows Server 2003 server. When the project was started, Postituspojat had two different servers, a Linuxserver and a Windows XP Professional workstation. The Linux-server was operating as a file sharing server and the Windows XP Professional workstation handled customer relationship software. Both of these services and more can be handled by a single Windows Server 2003 server.

The project is an active research project and the main focus is on test installations and final installations in the Postituspojat environment. The research method used in this project was a constructive research method. The purpose of the method in question is to create something new by using already existing knowledge. In this case a new server environment is created by using theory.

After the project was at the point, that some of the test networks and environments were created, the Linux-server used by Postituspojat crashed. This tightened the schedule and the new server had to be moved to Postituspojat sooner than anticipated. Although the problem was unanticipated it did not create any problems because the research work had been done well.

At the end of the project the server had all the necessary services up and running, such as Active Directory and File Server. However, Active Directory could not be fully used because most of the company’s workstations were Windows XP Home Edition workstations, which do not support Active Directory and domains.
