The modularity of client company’s prototype stage boat maintenance rack was examined and developed in this thesis. Product development on a general level was also performed. The aim of this thesis was to find out the durability of this product and to innovate possible improvement options on the product’s structure. In addition, the purpose was to obtain a version suitable for a larger boat size and to make manufacturing drawings of the product.
In the theoretical part of this thesis, product development and the process models used in the project are introduced. Also design principals that were used in this development project are introduced. Modularity, product lines and modeling methods are also briefly discussed. In the practical part of this thesis FEM-analysis to the structure based on the prototype was performed. Based on the results of these analyses improvement options for structure were considered.
As a result of this thesis, several different variations of the product were developed. Different usage needs and corresponding variables of these variations were taken into account. Manufacturing and assembly drawings of these product versions were made for possible future production.
