The topic of the thesis was how the parents of children who did not attend upper secondary school experienced peer group activities. The client of the thesis was the child and family services of Päijät-Häme Joint Authority for Health and Wellbeing. The purpose of the thesis was to develop peer support activities as part of the support provided to customers of Päijät-Häme Joint Authority for Health and Wellbeing’s child and family services. The aim was to find out the peer group experiences of the parents of an out-of-school child. This thesis provided information for the client to support the development of working with an out-of-school child and his or her family. The thesis was carried out as a qualitative research and participatory observation was used as the research method. The research task was the experiences of parents of out-of-school children about the peer support they received. Based on the results of the study, the parents who participated in the peer support group felt that peer support was meaningful and that a conversation with another peer would bring relief to the challenging situation and the feelings that arise from it. The parents felt that they had to bear a great burden in the situation, both in dealing with the young person's affairs as well as dealing with their own feelings. However, the parents' coping and the support they received did not fully meet. Stronger support would be needed to help parents and the whole family right from the beginning of the problem.
