Tiivistelmä
MIELI Lounais-Suomen Mielenterveys ry:n ylläpitämä Turun kriisikeskus tarjoaa lyhytaikaista, matalan kynnyksen tukea kriisissä oleville. Koulutetut vapaaehtoiset toimivat kriisikeskuksen eri tukimuodoissa.
The Turku Crisis Center, which is maintained by MIELI Mental Health South-West Finland, offers short-term, low threshold support to people in crisis. Trained volunteers work in different crisis intervention services at the crisis center. Divorce and problems in intimate relationships are some of the most common reasons for people to seek crisis counselling. Divorce is a life situation crisis that profoundly affects the psychological, emotional, physical, financial, and social well-being of divorcees and those close to them during and after the divorce process. Being free of charge increases service accessibility. Support in divorce recovery alleviates problems and promotes mental health, well-being and good family and couple relationships.
This functional thesis produced a new divorce support group model and facilitator’s manual for The Turku Crisis Center. The free divorce support group model was developed to support clients in divorce recovery and provide volunteers with tools for facilitating divorce support groups. The facilitator’s manual combines theories on interpersonal relationships, divorce processes and human interaction. The theoretical foundation is based attachment theory, the base concepts of schema therapy, Fisher’s divorce recovery model, the crisis stage model as well as the psychosocial needs of individuals and the therapeutic elements of groups.
The thesis was evaluated by examining user target group impressions of the facilitator’s manual in a focus group of crisis center volunteers. Volunteers thought the facilitator’s manual was thorough and comprehensive. Further needs for development concentrated on guiding volunteers in the use of the support group model and facilitator’s manual, as well as, offering support and training for volunteer group facilitators. Divorce support groups, based on this thesis, were launched at the Turku Crisis Center in autumn 2020.
