Tiivistelmä
Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on kuvata Sopimuskodin mielenterveyskuntoutujien kokemuksia moniaistisesta tilasta, eli Aistilasta. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on kehittää Aistilaa mielenterveyskuntoutujien toiveiden mukaisesti.
Tutkimuksia mielenterveyskuntoutujen kokemuksista moniaistisesta tilasta on suhteellisen vähän saatavilla.
Tutkimus toteutettiin ryhmähaastatteluna teemahaastattelun keinoin Sopimuskodin mielenterveyskuntoutujille lokakuussa 2020. Tutkimukseen osallistui lopulta neljä mielenterveyskuntoutujaa. Tutkimukseen osallistuminen perustui vapaaehtoisuuteen. Haastattelu analysoitiin aineistolähtöisen sisällönanalyysin keinoin. Tutkimuksen tuloksista voidaan päätellä, että moniaistinen tila vaikuttaa mielenterveyskuntoutujien kuntoutumisprosessiin myönteisellä tavalla. Merkityksellisimmiksi kokemuksiksi nousi kehon ja mielen kokemus rentoutumisesta aistihuoneessa käymisen myötä. Lisäksi kuntoutujat kokivat, että stressitasot vähentyivät aistihuoneessa käymisen myötä. Kuntoutujien myönteiset kokemukset aistihuoneesta kannustivat heitä käymään siellä säännöllisesti. Kehitettävää löytyi erityisesti aistihuoneen ympäristön ja siellä tapahtuvan toiminnan elävöittämisestä. Tutkimuksen tulosten avulla Sopimuskoti ry:n moniaistista tilaa voidaan kehittää kuntoutujien kokemusten perusteella sijoittaen resursseja Aistilan ulkonäköön sekä toimintaan.
Asiasanat: moniaistinen tila, aistihuone, mielenterveyskuntoutus The aim of this thesis was to describe Sopimuskoti’s mental health rehabilitation clients’ experiences of multisensory space, which is called Aistila. The aim of the study was to develop Aistila based on rehabilitees’ wishes. The aim was also to produce new information about multisensory space as part of the rehabilitation. The thesis was implemented together with Sopimuskoti and Laurea University of Applied Sciences.
Previous studies discussing mental health rehabilitation clients experiences of multisensory space were quite scarce. However, multisensory spaces can be found in educational and healthcare institutions. Through describing Sopimuskoti’s mental health rehabilitation clients´ experiences one can have an outlook on which matters of multisensory space are experienced important and what kind of impacts emerge specifically according to this target group using multisensory space.
This thesis was a qualitative study because there is little information available from previous studies. There was a need to describe experiences among individuals, and with a qualitative study it was possible to get a deeper understanding of the experiences. The thesis included a theme interview among Sopimuskoti mental health rehabilitees in October 2020. In the end, there were four participants. Participation this study was based on voluntariness. The interview was analysed using inductive content analysis. The results of the study show that multisensory space affects mental health rehabilitation clients´ rehabilitation process in a positive way. The most remarkable experiences comprise the experience of relaxing in body and mind after visiting multisensory space. Furthermore, clients experienced that stress levels were reduced along with visiting in the multisensory space. Mental health rehabilitation clients´ positive experiences of sensory room encouraged them to visit there regularly. Development targets included making the environment and activities more lively. With the results of this study multisensory space in Sopimuskoti can be developed through the experiences of mental health rehabilitation clients´ investing in the activities and environment of Aistila.
