ÄITIEN KOKEMUKSIA IMETYSOHJAUKSESTA KOUVOLAN SEUDUN ÄITIYS- JA LASTENNEUVOLOISSA

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää äitien kokemuksia imetysohjauksesta Kouvolan seudun äitiys- ja lastenneuvoloissa. Yhteistyökumppanina opinnäytetyössä toimi Kymenlaakson ammattikorkeakoulu, koulutus- ja työelämäpalvelut ja tavoitteena oli kartoittaa terveydenhoitajien imetysohjaajakoulutuksen tarvetta.

Tutkimus oli määrällinen ja aineisto kerättiin kyselylomakkeilla, jotka jaettiin neuvo-lakäyntien yhteydessä 4 - 6 kuukauden ikäisten lasten äideille. Tutkimusongelmat sel-vittivät äitien saamaa tietoa imetyksestä, imetysongelmien ohjausta ja vuorovaikutusta imetysohjauksen aikana.

Tutkimuksessa tuli esille, että äidit saivat riittävästi tietoa maidonerityksen perusasi-oista, virallisista imetyssuosituksista ja imetyksen terveysvaikutuksista. Sen sijaan oh-jauksessa oli puutteita imuotteen tarkistamisessa, imetysasentojen kokeilemisessa ja vauvan normaalin käyttäytymisen huomioimisessa. Imetysongelmien ohjaus oli hyvin vaihtelevaa ja ohjeistus lisämaidosta annettiin puolelle äideistä. Imetysohjauksen tun-nelma oli kaiken kaikkiaan ollut positiivista ja asiakaslähtöistä, mutta isän huomioi-minen jäi vähäiseksi. Tutkimuksessa todettiin, että imetysohjaajakoulutuksella pystyt-täisiin tulevaisuudessa vaikuttamaan imetysohjauksen sisällön johdonmukaisuuteen ja sen tavoitteena on, että yhä useampi äiti saisi neuvolasta apua kaikissa imetykseen liit-tyvissä asioissa.

The purpose of this Bachelor`s thesis was to examine mothers` experiences of breast-feeding counseling in Kouvola maternity and child health care clinics. This thesis was made in cooperation with Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences, Education and Career Services and the main goal was to study the necessity of breastfeeding counselor training for public health nurses.

The thesis was carried out by quantitative research methods and the material was gathered with questionnaires, which were distributed in health care clinics to mothers who had 4 to 6 month-old babies. The research problems clarified the information the mothers received about breastfeeding, the counseling of breastfeeding problems and the interaction during breastfeeding counseling.

The study revealed that mothers were given enough information about lactation, the official recommendations for breastfeeding and the health benefits of breastfeeding. Instead, the guidance of latch-on, breastfeeding positions and a baby`s normal behav-ior were defective. Counseling of breastfeeding problems was highly variable, and in-structions for formula were given to half of the mothers. Breastfeeding counseling was overall positive and customer-oriented, but fathers were not taken into consideration very often. The study found out that with the breastfeeding counselor training it could be possible to make the contents of counseling more coherent and also more and more mothers could get help from the health care clinics in any matters related to breast-feeding.
