Tiivistelmä
This thesis project had three objectives. The first objective was to provide the case company with new and improved business process models. Secondly, the thesis aimed to answer the research question, which is the following: What is the need for business processes in the case company, and how would having updated business processes would affect the working environment? Lastly, the thesis needed to produce a tool to help the case company in future business process modeling and projects. This project was assigned to the author by the case company’s real estate management director.
The theoretical framework for the project is based on a definition of business process; a review of different types of business process mapping and modeling techniques; and a discussion of how business processes are managed in an organization. The data for the project was collected by conducting interviews. The interviews were semi-structured and conducted with the heads of the four sub-departments (landlords’ office, maintenance, construction, and real estate development).
The key finding from the project is that the organization is in dire need for business processes. Business processes would start to solve the problem of lack of responsibility and accountability that is present in the organization. Another key result of the project was the successful production of new business process models. The outcome of the project as a whole was a success. All the objectives that were set, were met. The recommendation that the author gave to the case organization, was to implement a simple business process management system. The system was designed by the author on the basis of the theoretical framework.
