The purpose of this thesis is to improve the retaining of nurses with an immigrant background and to improve the quality of care. The aim is to design and implement a dictionary in four languages English, Finnish, Nepali, and Arabic.This dictionary provides a guide to all-around medical terms used in health care sectors. The vocabulary could also be used as a pocketbook when communicating with patients.
The method used for this research was supported mainly by the purpose and aim of the study, based on a functional thesis with mixed activities on practical and theoretical knowledge covering the project development, documentation, and the project evaluation. During the development stage words were chosen by the researchers in the best way that suits medical terms and mostly used words by nurses in different sectors. The medical terms were then categorized and translated into four different languages.
Feedbacks were collected from fourteen nursing students/participants. They gave their feedbacks voluntarily by filling google form consisting of three questions to assess and give suggestions to improve the dictionary. The overall feedback was constructively and positively given according to the feedback received from the participants.
The dictionary will be a source and a useful learning tool for future nursing students regardless of all proposed suggestions given by students.
