Jatkotutkimusaiheena voisi tutkia ensihoitajien osaamista luksaatioiden hoidosta. The purpose of this thesis was to create teaching material for paramedical joint dislocation treatment for LAB university of applied sciences. The teaching material is meant to be used to aid paramedical nursing students to learn and understand how to assess and treat dislocations. The first version of the material was made from purely theoretical sources. Feedback was collected from paramedic nursing lecturers and active paramedics to further develop the final version of the material as well as evaluate the material’s credibility and practicality.
The theoretical part of this thesis consists of the anatomy of joints, and first assessment and treatment of dislocations. The six most common dislocations encountered by paramedics in the field have been given in-depth remarks and repositioning techniques. The theoretical part has been compiled from anatomical, surgical, and paramedical literature as well as internet sources in Finnish and English.
According to the collected feedback, the first version of the teaching material was found to be well put together and practical. The repositioning techniques were found to be easy to implement and functional in the field. Some demonstrative video links and an alternative repositioning technique for the shoulder joint was added to the material based on the feedback.
Further research of the subject could be conducted on the competence of paramedics in dislocation treatment. The research could help assess the paramedics’ skill level and indicate possible need for further education.
