The purpose of this functional Bachelor’s thesis was on the basis of a theoretical framework to create and produce a guide suitable for self-studying about sales work, the psychology of selling and psychological factors in consumer behaviour for students studying in the Degree Programme in Beauty and Cosmetics at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The goal of the thesis was with the help of the produced guide to increase the students’ knowledge and understanding of the subjects through applying them to the beauty and cosmetics industry. This thesis was made in co-operation with the Degree Programme in Beauty and Cosmetics at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The Degree Programme did not have a guide about the subjects covered in this thesis before.
The theoretical framework consisted of the theory of sales work, the psychology of interaction and power, persuasion strategies of influence, salesperson’s characteristics and skills as well as psychological factors in consumer behaviour. Literature and studies about the subject areas were used as sources. An electronic guide with 34 pages was produced based on the theoretical framework. The guide was made to be an electronic guide so that reading it would be possible independently without a full lecture. The guide was made with a website called Canva. The guide was evaluated by four work life representatives who work in cosmetics sales. The feedback from the evaluation was positive and no big changes were made to the guide on the grounds of it. When it comes to the guide, the purpose and the goals of the thesis were reached as the guide was completed. Goals concerning the increase of the students’ knowledge and understanding of the subjects could not be evaluated within the limits of the schedule of the thesis. Ideas in relation to further studies about influence and persuasion tactics as well as both the psychological and the external factors in consumer behaviour were developed during the process.
