Topic for this thesis was “Remote implementation of ERP/MES-system”. In thesis it was studied how it is possible to implement ERP/MES system by having a majority of the project team working remotely during implementation without compromising quality. In the beginning of the ERP/MES system project, it was not intended to do remote implementation. COVID-19 pandemic situation forced project team to find alternative way to implement the ERP system. The base for this study was a qualitative and quantitative methods, focusing on processes, analyses, and technical solutions. Analyses were conducted including observations, field notes, and survey.
The objective of this study was to have useful methods and learnings which could be used in future projects to ensure successful implementations. Implementation of ERP/MES system was successful and quality of implementation was not declined because of remote work. Microsoft Teams was decided as a main tool for communication and sharing the files, it met the requirements well. In the planning of the implementation it was focused what of the tasks can and cannot be done remotely. Communication was targeted to be real time communication, having virtual conference rooms. Purpose was to keep all the project members known about current situation of the tasks and be able to have fast response time for possible issues.
The pandemic situation has permanently changed our ways of working, and there surely will be a need for these kind of remote project implementations in the future.
