Videon käyttäminen opetusmenetelmänä luo varmuutta opiskeluun, koska jokaisella opiskelijalla on eri tyylejä oppia asioita.
The aim of this functional thesis is to create a clear and informative audiovisual instructional video for nursing students at LAB University of Applied Sciences to illustrate and support theoretical studies of safe blood transfusion.
As nurses play a key role in the implementation of blood transfusions, it is important that they are provided with adequate training, both in theory and in practice, right from the beginning of their education. Using video as a teaching method creates confidence in learning because each student has different styles to learn things.
The thesis was commissioned by LAB University of Applied Sciences. The theoretical part of the thesis consists of a knowledge base grounded on reliable and diverse sources. The written section includes information that starts from blood composition and blood products, continues to blood safety activities and legislation, and ends up to the safe preparation and execution of blood transfusions. Video as a learning method and a pedagogical perspective are also important topics in the thesis and are therefore included in the theory.
The instructional video that was the result of this thesis was shown to registered nurse students and feedback was collected from them. According to the feedback, the video was supporting theoretical studies of blood transfusion, it was clear and proceeded in a logical order. The instructional video will remain in the use of the health care teachers.
