Abstract
Documenting client visits is a challenge in social welfare services and in services for older people. Nursing documentation means the documentation and saving of information through common, pre-agreed structures in patient and client information systems and in national electronic information system services. The degree of documentation will increase due to the increasing number of clients and documentations. Consequently, time spent on documentation will increase.
The purpose of this thesis was to pilot a dictation and speech recognition service among certain personnel groups in social welfare services and in services for older people in Siun Social and Health Services. The aim of the pilot was that the employees are able to use an application that recognizes and is able to transcribe different work tasks using speech recognition technology. In the thesis, it was investigated whether the dictation and speech recognition service enhances the employees’ time management at work in social welfare services and in services for older people, and as to working time, if the proportion of direct work decreases.
In the dictation and speech recognition piloting, it was discovered that the use of working time becomes more efficient, documentation is easier, and it takes up less working time when dictation and speech recognition is used. In the future, it could be explored if the implementation of the dictation and speech recognition service is possible in other units and if new purposes of use have been found for the dictation and speech recognition program.
