Raskausdiabetesta sairastavien hoidonohjauksen on sovittaa sairauden hoitoa osaksi jokapäiväistä arkielämää.
Somalinkielinen opas tulee olemaan hyödyllinen monelle odottavalle äidil-le sillä oppaassa käsiteltiin konkreettisesti mitä vaikutusta gestaatiodiabe-teksella on sikiölle, äidille ja raskaudelle kokonaisuudessa, Odottava äiti saa kokonaiskuvan omasta sairaudestaan. Oppaassa käsiteltiin myöskin diabeteksen omaseuranta, oikeasta ja terveellisestä ruokavaliosta, liikun-nasta ja lääkehoidosta.
The purpose of this thesis was to make a Somali language guide for the ex-pectant mother, this will help the expectant mother who has linguistic chal-lenges to better understand the significance of her illness and its treatment for the fetus and her own health.
Our goal was to produce a Somali-language guide to treating gestational dia-betes. We would like to take advantage of our multilingualism in this thesis.
Care management for people with gestational diabetes must integrate the treatment of the disease into everyday life. It is important that a mother with gestational diabetes masters self-care and is motivated to do so. The guidance was based on an equal care relationship between the client and the healthcare professional. In a treatment relationship, a pregnant diabetic is the caregiver and problem solver, and the health care professional is the source of information and resource at her disposal.
The Somali guide will be useful for many expectant mothers the guide specifi-cally addressed the impact of gestational diabetes on the fetus, mother and pregnancy as a whole. The expectant mother gets an overview of her own ill-ness. The guide also covered diabetes in the local beach, proper and healthy diet, exercise and medication.
