Working as a security professional at Fintraffic Vessel Traffic Services Ltd.

Abstract

The objective of the thesis was to develop my skills and knowledge as a security professional meanwhile providing data and references as the first trainee and summer worker of the Fintraffic VTS’s safety, security and support services to improve their introduction process for new employees and trainees. The thesis has been written in a diary form and covers ten weeks of reporting. During each week, the upcoming week’s theme and events have been planned, the daily work tasks have been documented and referred to a knowledge base. After each week the daily events and findings have been analyzed. Theoretical framework of the thesis has been formed during the reporting weeks based on the subjects and events that have taken place each week. Theoretical framework of the thesis is diverse as the contents change between the reporting weeks, but the focus point during research has been the substitution arrangements and introduction process of new employees. Diary thesis has provided the writer with extended knowledge about safety and security management in addition to work experience as a safety and security specialist. Fintraffic VTS as the commissioner of the thesis has been provided with development suggestions of implementing collection of feedback from the new employees that have gone through the introduction process to enable the improvement and development of the introduction process in the future.
