The purpose of the thesis was to examine what impact telecommuting has had on people’s time management and execution skills, and what factors influence them in telecommuting. The purpose was also to find out the general opinion of teleworkers about telecommuting and whether they want to continue it in the future. In addition, the purpose was to find out how time management and execution skills could be improved in telecommuting.
The subject was chosen according to its topicality and its general interest. The COVID-19 pandemic had been going on for more than a year at the time of the study, which had a significant impact on the telecommuting situation at the time. The frame of reference of the study was the border theory of work leisure and Volitio Booster execution model.
The study used a quantitative and qualitative research methods, which was executed as a survey and thematic interviews. The survey was formed based on the theoretical part and research questions. The survey was followed by thematic interviews which answers were used to confirm the results of the survey. Both methods, quantitative and qualitative, were used in the study to make results more reliable.
The results of the study showed that telecommuting was mainly perceived as positive, although challenges have emerged. The results also showed that time management and executive skills had been some people easier when working remotely and had been even more efficient than at work. The conclusion of the study was that, despite the challenges, there was a desire to continue working remotely, at least in some part, in accordance with the hybrid model. Results supported the views of the theoretical framework that, with time management planning and prioritization, more time is left for important things. In addition, the results showed that for the most part the conditions for improving implementation were in place and that implementation was also fluent.
