Tiivistelmä
This business plan takes into consideration the nationwide and significant changes on the automotive industry, transportation preferences and mobility services consumption. The purpose of this business plan is to evaluate the market opportunity for a car sharing service in the field and to determine how the company is going to be profitable. Also, to critically evaluate the chances of success of the business. The objective is to achieve a understanding on business planning as a whole and to recognize the current situation of the market. In addition, to understand the processes and methods regarding evaluating business opportunity.
This thesis consists of a theoretical, empirical and business plan parts. The theoretical part illustrates the concept of a business plan. It contains literature studies regarding business planning that are considered appropriate according to their reliability and validity. Applicable business planning methods are selected and determined that are employed in the business plan part itself. Empirical study is done using data analysis and examination of survey results. The study analysis results are used in various parts of the business plan.
The mobility and transportation market environment faces changes in the future. Legislative and taxation changes, and other factors, will shift the way of consumption towards new solutions. Either consumption will implement adaptation measures or there may be an increase on demand for car sharing services. According to interviews and survey results, Finnish consumers are firmly divided into car owning and non-car owning groups. There is a small group of people between these two parties, which consists of only about 15% of survey participants, which could be considered as direct potential customers. Car sharing services are, or would, be used mostly in unorthodox or spontaneous trips. Daily routine trips are most likely organized in a way that either require owning a car or not. There is business opportunity that can be evaluated further.
Car sharing services would most likely require community commitment, for example in a housing association. In a way that cost can be divided into a larger group of people, making the use of the car itself more affordable or even free of direct costs to end user.
