Tiivistelmä
Sataedu has started education export to China in 2017, with products based on only the presence and contact teaching by their own teachers. As COVID-19 closed the world, they returned to the starting point, a situation where Sataedu did not have any tools to continue cooperation.
China is known for its strong reliance on theory at all education levels, including Voca-tional Education and Training (VET). In addition, since 2017, having visited China several times, I have learned, that they have a strong reliance on contact teaching, and for that reason, Sataedu has not provided any online trainings for Chinese partners so far.
One purpose of this study was to find out the prevailing perception of learning among teachers in Vocational Education and Training in China. The second purpose was to have a clear understanding, what needs and expectations Chinese VET teachers have for online-training.
The research was conducted by seven multiple choice questions, which provided an-swers to two important problems; how are the new topics best learned, and how they should be implemented? Most of the responses came from their partner school Yantai Vocational College of Culture and Tourism.
Although the response rate was low, the result is obvious and indicative. Teachers in vocational sector expect trainings to be practical and exemplary, and so that they are in constant contact (interactions) with the course instructor. Valuable outcome was also to recognize, that level of English skills is not very high among the Chinese teachers, and interpretation is needed during the training.
The world has changed vastly during the last two years, and the new normal in VET-sector is, that online training is an integral part of the learning. Sataedu must adapt and adopt these new methods also in education export, if it wants to be competitive actor in China.
