Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyön aiheena on mielenterveyskuntoutujan itsemääräämisoikeuden toteutuminen työnteki-jän näkökulmasta.
The topic of this thesis is how mental health rehabilitees’ right to self-determination is realized from the point of view of the employees. Self-determination is one of the guiding principles of social and health care and its realization is safeguarded by law. It has also increased its role over the time.
The thesis was commissioned by a rehabilitation unit within Kainuu Social Welfare and Health Care Joint Authority located in Suomussalmi-Hyrynsalmi. The material for this thesis was collected using an electronic Webropol survey prepared for employees in a mental health unit. The purpose was to ex-plore employees' view of the topic. The questions were open and prepared on the basis of carefully sourced theoretical knowledge. The data from the survey was analyzed qualitatively, and it aimed at demonstrating how mental health rehabilitees’ right to self-determination was realized in that unit.
Six of the fifteen employees responded to the survey. Based on the responses received, the employees felt that the right to self-determination was realized well in the unit. In their responses, they described the concept of self-determination as it is described in law. In addition, they described its visibility in the daily lives of their clients, as well as how employees could contribute to the realization of clients’ right to self-determination through psychoedution and listening to the wishes of their clients, for example. On the basis of the answers received, it can be stated that the right to self-determination is realized in the unit in accordance with the law. As a further study of the thesis, a corresponding survey could also be carried out to clients and, for example, to their family.
