The Full Stack Software Development Degree Programme at Jamk University of Applied Sciences — applicability to the industry and students' requirements

The field of software development is under constant development and growth. To convey a degree programme's quality and utility in work life obtaining the EUR-ACE label would be extremely useful. As such, a research report was commissioned to find out whether the degree programme met the needs of prospective and current students and the industry.
The objective of the research was a report, which would answer two questions: " How well does the current Full Stack Software Development degree programme serve the current needs of the students and the related industry?” and “How compatible is the current programme with the EUR-ACE and the CC2020 frameworks?". To answer the first question a questionnaire was submitted to students and representatives of the industry. The questionnaire, composed of multiple choice and open end questions, probed the responder's feelings about the content and execution of the compulsory courses and whether the programme as a whole had been useful in work life. To answer the question about education framework compliance a literature review was conducted, wherein the course descriptions and education framework were compared, and the compliance or lack thereof were analysed.
The results indicate that the students felt that the degree programme met their needs, with the exception of one course. The courses largely complied with the learning outcome requirements of the EUR-ACE framework, with one exception which is covered by elective courses. The question regarding how well the degree programme serves the needs of the industry wasn’t answered. The administrative requirements of the EUR-ACE standard are largely met.
As it stands, the likeliest outcome of an audit seems to be that it would result in the programme not being accredited. It needs to be noted that accreditation with reservations is also not an improbable outcome.
