The purpose of this thesis was to find out the role of BIM in the Swiss construction market. The aim is to show the level of using BIM in Switzerland in the spheres of house, city, and infrastructure modeling. Data were collected from different conferences, surveys, and specialized publications. According to the study results, BIM is a very actual topic and most construction companies have begun to implement the technology into their projects.
The research included a review and analysis of literature, Building Information Modelling standards, and analysis of data gathered from the survey sent to the professionals in the construction industry.
The research showed that Switzerland is at the beginning stage of implementing BIM technology. Many companies that are already using BIM, adopt it for more than half of the projects. BIM standard regulation is provided by SIA 1001/11 alongside associated commentary SIA 1001/11-K as well as by the Swiss chapter at buildingSMART.
The thesis was conducted as a part of the benchmarking research of the project BIM-ICE (BIM-Integration of Higher and Continuing Education) which is co-funded by the European Union.
