Opinnäytetyön tuotteena on tuotettu sähköinen perehdytysmateriaali Kuusamon terveyskeskuksen psykiatriselle osastolle. Laadullisen kyselyn avulla selvitettiin millainen perehdytys edistää työntekijää ylläpitämään ja kehittämään tietojaan ja taitojaan voidakseen harjoittaa ammattiaan turvallisesti ja asianmukaisesti.
Johtopäätöksien mukaan opinnäytetyön tuotteena valmistunut sähköinen perehdytysmateriaali vastaa työelämän tarpeisiin ja sähköisen perehdytysmateriaalin avulla voidaan vastata toimeksiantajan velvollisuuteen antaa opetusta ja ohjausta työntekijän työympäristön tai työtehtävien oleellisesti muuttuessa.
Currently there are challenges in recruiting new professionals to work in the social and health care sector, and the sector is no longer considered attractive. It will be harder for municipalities to recruit new employees to replace the large numbers of staff retiring. In the next ten years, thousands of new employees will require orientation to social and health care sector. A well-organized orientation program for new staff has been found to increase job satisfaction and productivity among staff members. According to studies, however, nurses have often found orientation to a new job fragmented and too brief. Collaborative and extensive orientation may increase the attractiveness of a workplace, as well as positively engage new staff members in their work.
This thesis was commissioned by the Psychiatric Ward at Kuusamo Health Center. The nurse manager of the Psychiatric Ward requested the commission and hoped for an electronic familiarization package that would be created for the new nursing staff on the Psychiatric Ward. The commissioner wanted to ensure that the outdated paper version of the orientation package was to be replaced by an up-to-date electronic version. The Occupational Safety and Health Act requires the employer to observe the development needs of the workplace, and the employer is also mandated to provide the staff with adequate information and education regarding health hazards and dangers. The Occupational Safety law requires that the employee is provided with education and guidance that offer the means to perform the job even when faced with changes and challenges.
This thesis describes the orientation process in terms of legal requirements and nursing care and focuses on the different areas, challenges, and goals of orientation. The outcome of this thesis is an electronic orientation package for the Psychiatric Ward at Kuusamo Health Center. A qualitative analysis was performed to find the type of educational materials that would encourage the employees to maintain and improve their professional knowledge and skills to practice their profession safely and competently.
In conclusion, the outcome of this thesis, i.e., the electronic orientation package, meets the needs of new healthcare staff. The package is an evolving document that meets the requirements of the commissioner to provide education and guidance in the changing work environment.
