The aim of this thesis was to provide and present tourism business in Finland with useful information that could be utilized when the focus is development and to follow influential trends of travel and tourism. Thesis aimed to give guidelines of focus areas and success factors for development and management. Provided guidelines could be useful in Finland or in other destinations and could be helpful tool when analyse and plan new trends, business ideas or strategies.
The tourism business has experienced changes and new key tourism trends with the time and generation changing. In addition, the tourism business has experienced difficult challenges when the world has been facing unpredictable scenarios and turbulent environment. This thesis was to present a collection of different kind of aspects of tourism and trends, in addition informative implements for development and improvement.
The theoretical part focused on material collected from variety of professional books and collections ofarticles. The information inspirations and sources defined relevant subjects for the tourism business, as well as focus subjects for development and strategy. A practical part was presented with two different kind of analysis. An analysis was presented in the format of SWOT analysis created for a travel operator with collecting different aspects of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats factors. In order to develop a business model or to understand a business strategy, a business model canvas was presented with a useful analysis for a travel operator.
