Tiivistelmä
This thesis was commissioned by Haapajärvi secondary school and Haapajärvi business services. It’s impossible to predict what kind of working life young people will have in future, so the goal of entrepreneurship education is to develop students’ skills so that they will succeed in future working life.
The aim of the thesis was to develop entrepreneurship education in Haapajärvi secondary school. The purpose of this thesis was to find out different kind of entrepreneurship education models and practices in Finland and to develop on the basis of these findings Haapajärvi secondary school entrepreneurship education. The purpose of the thesis was also to gain an in-depth understanding of entrepreneurship education. The empirical research of the thesis is carried out in the form of a qualitative group discussion for teachers. The thematic interview was conducted as a group interview. Prior to the group discussion with teachers, surveys are conducted with students and entrepreneurs. These feedback surveys are a quantitative method. Both surveys were collected with electronic questionnaires using the Google Forms application. A survey was conducted for ninth-graders to find out students’ opinions on entrepreneurship education. A second survey was conducted for entrepreneurs which found out how entrepreneurs experience organizing an event with young people. The purpose of the teachers’ group discussion was to discuss the results of the students and entrepreneurs surveys presented in the thesis, as well as the entrepreneurship education models and practices that have been used elsewhere in Finland. The purpose of the discussion was to get new ideas, practices and models for entrepreneurship education in Haapajärvi secondary school. In addition to the author of the thesis, two teachers and the principal participated in the group discussion.
As a result of the thesis, my knowledge of entrepreneurship education increased. Based on the first survey, young people’s opinions on entrepreneurship education are known in Haapajärvi. Based on the second survey, the perspective of entrepreneurs in working with young people is known. As also a result of the thesis, it was decided to establish a co-operation network for entrepreneurship education. Haapajärvi secondary school got new ideas for entrepreneurship education and its development.
