Opin-näytetyö on luonteeltaan kehittämistyö, jossa käytettiin konstruktiivista lähestymistapaa.
3–5-vuotiaille suunniteltiin yksi tuokio, johon sisältyi molemmat aiheet. Tuokioilla käytettiin keskusteluapuna Väestöliiton laatimaa kehotunnekasvatusmateriaalia, joka myötäilee Maailman terveysjärjestön (WHO) luomia seksuaalikasvatuksen standardeja.
Opinnäytetyön tavoite saavutettiin, vaikka kaikkia tuokioita ei voitu pitää pienryhmissä eikä kaikkeen suunniteltuun toiminnallisuuteen jäänyt aikaa. Tähän vaikutti varhaiskasvatuksen arjen hektisyys ja siihen liittyvä vähäinen tuki. Kehittämistyön tuloksena luodut kehotunne-kasvatustuokioiden mallit kuvattiin ja esitettiin ko. päiväkodeissa. Jatkossa on kiinnitettävä huomiota tuokioiden väljempään aikatauluun. Opinnäytetyön avulla voitiin kuitenkin osoittaa, että kehotunnekasvatusta on mahdollista antaa joustavasti jo olemassa olevan tiedon avulla. The thesis is a development work with an objective to strengthen the sexuality education, i.e. body-emotion education, provided for small children in two different communal day-care units of Helsinki. The task was to plan and carry out sessions devoted to themes of body-emotion education in small groups of 3–6-yearolds, and to create models for such sessions to be held in the future.
The development work had a constructive approach. Its methods were observation and participant observation of the children, reflection and open interviews of employees participating in the early childhood education. The interviews were held to survey the need for and content requirements of the body-emotion sessions.
The theoretical knowledge considered and used in the thesis was related to the psychosocial and psychosexual development phases in the early childhood. In addition, two research papers concerning the expressions of childhood sexuality in Finnish day-care were used as a reference. Research on the media relations of small children was considered in choosing the pedagogic methods used in the sessions.
The pedagogic content of the body-emotion sessions was planned based on the observations and the theory. For the preschool aged children, a model of two sessions was created, which included different sessions concentrating on body image and safety skills that held the same content for everyone. One session, that contained both topics, was planned for the 3–5-yearolds. Body-emotion education material that was created by the Family Federation of Finland and follows the standards of comprehensive sexuality education formulated by the World Health Organisation (WHO), was used to aid the discussion in the sessions.
The objective of the thesis was achieved, even though all the sessions could not be held in small groups and carrying out the planned activities suffered from lack of time. This was due to the hectic nature of everyday early childhood education and the limited support associated with it. The models of body-emotion education sessions created as a result of the development work were described and presented in the day-care units in question. In the future, attention will have to be given to a looser scheduling of the sessions. However, the thesis shows that the body-emotion education can be given flexibly with the existing knowledge.
