Implementation of a digital twin with Unity and Beckhoff software

Abstract

This thesis explores the implementation of a digital twin using Unity and TwinCAT3. Digital twins are digital models of physical systems, and their implementation can provide numerous advantages such as improved efficiency, accuracy, and customer experience. This thesis focuses on the implementation of digital twin using Unity, a game engine, and Beckhoff software, a suite of automation software. The research investigates the feasibility of a digital twin implementation with these two tools, focusing on the integration of both tools, the development of the digital twin design, аnd the use of the digitаl twin to simulate physical systems. The results of the research will provide insight into the effectiveness of using Unity and TwinCAT3 to create a digital twin, identify any potential issues, and provide detailed instructions on how to establish communication between two programs.
