The purpose of the thesis was to research female entrepreneurs in Finland operating in the digital business field and identify their key success factors. Additionally, the goal was to get a better understanding of digital entrepreneurship as a concept and practice in Finland. The point of view of the thesis was especially on the experiences and perspectives of female entrepreneurs in relation to key success factors in digital entrepreneurship.
The theoretical part of the thesis addressed the key concepts of female entrepreneurship, digital entrepreneurship, and key success factors. The study used a qualitative research method and semi-structured interviews were selected as the primary data collection method. The acquired data were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis method.
Research results showed that digital entrepreneurship is often defined as a lifestyle rather than traditional entrepreneurship which reflects the definition and determination of success factors. Female entrepreneurs seek freedom, time and location independence, flexibility, and lifestyle compatibility in digital entrepreneurship. According to the research results, the success of female digital entrepreneurs is built on a multifaceted entity consisting of personal motivational factors, internal factors such as skills and characteristics, and external factors related to self- and business development. The research results offer current and future entrepreneurs useful insight that may aid in identifying potential areas within the field of digital entrepreneurship where opportunities exist.
