Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää Helsingin Diakonissalaitoksen Vamos-toiminnan sekä työeläkeyhtiö Varman “Nuoret työelämään” -ohjelman koettuja vaikutuksia. Ohjelman tavoitteena on haastavassa työmarkkina-asemassa olevien nuorten työllistyminen. Ohjelma on aloitettu 1.1.2021 ja ohjelmassa olevia työpaikkoja oli 24.2.2023 mennessä hakenut 83 nuorta, joista 23 nuorta oli työllistynyt. Opinnäytetyötä aloitettaessa syksyllä 2021 työllistyneitä nuoria oli 15 ja marraskuussa 2022 työllistyneitä oli 20.
Opinnäytetyössä haastateltiin neljää ohjelmassa työllistynyttä Vamos-nuorta sekä kolmea ohjelmassa mukana ollutta yrityksen edustajaa. Haastattelut toteutettiin yksilöhaastatteluina teemahaastattelumenetelmällä syksyllä 2022. Nuorten haastattelut toteutettiin kasvotusten ja yritysten haastattelut Teams-yhteydellä.
Opinnäytetyön tietoperusta rakentui nuorten työmarkkinatilanteeseen perehtymisestä, työn merkityksen, työhön sitoutumisen ja työhyvinvoinnin ymmärtämisestä. Opinnäytetyössä esitellään teemahaastattelu tutkimusmenetelmänä ja avataan teemahaastattelussa tarvittavia eettisiä sekä vuorovaikutustaitoja.
Kaikkien nuorten elämäntilanne ja ohjautuminen ”Nuoret työelämään” –ohjelmaan oli erilainen. Haastateltujen yrityksien edustajien suhde ”Nuoret työelämään” -ohjelman nuoriin poikkesi myös toisistaan. Haastatteluiden perusteella nuoret kokivat Vamos -toiminnan vaikuttavana. Tulokset ovat samansuuntaisia kuin Itsenäisyyden juhlavuoden lastensäätiön Itlan vuonna 2021 julkaistussa Vamoksen vaikuttavuustutkimuksessa. Yritykset kokivat, että ”Nuoret työelämään” -ohjelmassa oleva työllistetty nuori ei erotu muista heille työllistyvistä nuorista.
Ohjelmaan osallistuneista nuorista 27,7 % on työllistynyt vapaille työmarkkinoille. Suurin osa ohjelman nuorista ei ollut vielä työllistynyt. Kokemus työhaastatteluun pääsemisestä voi kuitenkin olla merkittävä ensiaskel työllistymisen polulla. Jatkossa tulisi selvittää, millaisia työllistymisen esteitä työllistymättömillä nuorilla on ja miten näiden esteiden voittamista voidaan tukea entistä vaikuttavammin. The aim of this thesis was to explore the perceived effectiveness of “Young people to working life” program organized together by Helsinki Deaconess Foundation’s Vamos services and Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company. The aim of the program is the employment of young people with challenging labor market statuses. The program was launched on January 1st 2021 and by February 24th 2023 83 young people had applied for a job through the program. Out of this group 23 people were employed. By autumn 2021, when the writing of this thesis started, 15 young people had been employed. In November 2022 the number was 20.
As part of this thesis, four young people employed through the program were interviewed as well as three representatives from companies participating in the program. The interviews were conducted in autumn 2022 as individual interviews using a theme-centered interview method. The young people were interviewed face to face whereas the interviews with the companies were conducted via Teams connection.
The theoretical framework of the thesis was gathered through familiarization with young people’s labor market statuses and understanding the concepts of importance of work, commitment to work and well-being at work. Theme-centered interview as a research method as well as ethical and interaction skills needed in theme-centered interviews are introduced in the thesis.
The life situation and the path to “Young people to working life” program varied between the young people interviewed. The relationship between the companies’ representatives interviewed and the young people participating in the program was also different in each case. According to the interviews the young people perceived Vamos services to be effective. The results are similar to those of Itla Children’s Foundation’s impact study of Vamos conducted in 2021. The companies concluded that a young person employed through “Young people to working life” program does not differ from other young people they employ.
Out of the young people participating in the program 27.7 percent had been employed in free labor market, but most of them had not been employed yet. However, the experience of getting a job interview can be a significant step in the path to employment. Going forward it would be important to clarify what type of barriers to employment unemployed young people are facing and how to support young people to overcome these barriers more effectively.
