The purpose of this thesis was to explore the various aspects of Education Consortium Tavastia’s security by drawing from my experience as a security planner, evaluating the effectiveness of the Secapp app, and analyzing survey data collected from employees of ED-Tavastia. The insights gathered from these sources were used to develop ideas for enhancing the campus’ security measures.
From the surveys I was able to find out that the staff had signs of positive and negative traits. The positives were that the staff knew how to exit the buildings in an orderly manner if an emergency were to occur. The second was where the rescue plan was and almost all of the staff had looked into it. The third was how well the staff had noticed the different types of security threats in their buildings (access control, camera security).
The negatives were the usage of Secapp. A huge majority of the staff doesn’t know or doesn’t care to know how to use the app. The second was on how to react in a situation in which there is a threat of violence. About 30% of the staff hasn’t been informed on how to react in these situations. The third one was a general feeling of unsafety from the teaching faculty. A lot of the teaching staff feel unsafe working with some of the students at campus.
